Noam Chomsky shared his wisdom on current events and the historical context that explains why Haiti is a beleagured nation today.
"The earthquake in Haiti was
a class-based catastrophe. It didn't much harm the wealthy elite up in the hills. They were shaken but not destroyed. The people who were living in the miserable urban slums - huge numbers of them- they were devastated. Maybe a couple hundred thousand were killed. They were living there because of US policies - consis-tent policies..."Noam Chomsky...Excerpted from Counterpunch, March 9, 2010The Riverside Church Mission and Social Justice Ministry sponsored the special event to raise funds for its Haiti Relief Effort.

Photo: Sherry Rubel - NY Times “Through the Night,” which Mr. Daniel Beaty is performing with his signature wit, grit and piercing lyricism, is a thing of beauty. Now in a limited run at the Riverside Theater in Morningside Heights, this drama has been described as a look at what it means to be black and male in the United States today, but its deepest meanings transcend race and gender. See what else the Times had to say... NY Times Review
