08/04/2008 - On Saturday, September 6, The Rev. Dr. Brad R. Braxton, candidate for Senior Minister, will arrive in New York to begin a week-long series of meetings, worship services and other important social interactions with members of the congregation, lay leaders and staff. Riversiders will have an opportunity to hear and meet Dr. Braxton.

On August 3, the Senior Minister Search Committee presented his name to the Congregation. Currently, Reverend Braxton is a tenured Professor of Homiletics and New Testament at the Divinity School at Vanderbilt University in Nashville.

07/30/2008 - The Mission and Social Justice Commision of The Riverside Church, The New York Buddhist Church (331 Riverside Drive), and The Universal Peace Initiative commemorate the 63rd anniversary of the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki on Tuesday, August 5th with performers from Japan and the US.

At 6:30 p.m. there will be an Interfaith Peace Memorial Gathering at the New York Buddhist Church led by Ven. T. Kenjitsu Nakagaki, Sensei in front of a statue of Shinran Shonin, which survived the atomic bomb in Hiroshima. A Silent Peace Walk to The Riverside Church will follow.

07/25/2008 - Amnesty International and the Mission and Social Justice Commission invite you to a screening of the documentary film about their struggle. Three women from Liberia and two-time Academy Award winner and Director, Jonathan Stack will be there for the screening and a discussion to follow in Room 9T from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m on Sunday, July 27th.

06/22/2008 - The Internal Revenue Service has concluded that the UCC did not violate tax laws when U.S. Sen. Barack Obama addressed the denomination's 50th anniversary General Synod in Hartford, Conn., in June 2007.

"Based on your response to the inquiry, we have determined that the activity about which we had concern did not constitute an intervention or participation in a political campaign … and that the United Church of Christ continues to qualify as an organization described in section 501(c)(3)," according to a May 13 letter from the IRS.
